Central Prison Central Plant
A one story central utility plant housing electrical, chilled water, steam and fire protection, serving a 170,000 square foot state regional medical center with 120 inpatient beds, and a 150,000 square foot, 230 bed mental health facility with operating rooms, clinics, and clinical laboratories. The electrical area of the central plant includes the utility power company feed, distribution switchgear, and four 1,600kW emergency/standby diesel/natural gas engine-generator sets. In an emergency this area will provide all electrical power needs for the site for several days. The plant also includes three 1,000 ton centrifugal chillers and space for a fourth 1,000 ton unit, along with all pumps, as well as 12 cooling tower cells located on the roof. The steam area of the plant consists of three 600 HP package wet back fire-tube boilers and all auxiliaries. The fire protection area includes a new site-wide electric motor driven fire pump, jocket pump and controller. The entire plant is controlled and monitored by a new central computer based control system.
