The two story academic wing is built around two interior courtyards to allow for windows in every classroom and maximize natural light throughout the facility. The media center includes a computer laboratory that accommodates fifty students. The activity wing houses an 800 seat auditorium; a 2,500 seat gymnasium; physical education and fine arts rooms; a wrestling room; weight room; bank; choral rooms; practice space; and offices. A 10,700 square foot commons area serves as a cafeteria by day and a lobby for performances and competitions at night. West Ashley High School serves 2,100 Charleston County students.
Audio-visual systems, including video systems and an audio-visual control system for the auditorium, as well as an audio system for the main and auxiliary gymnasiums, football/baseball stadium, field house, and main theatre.
