Welcome Wednesday: Spring 2019 Co-Ops

Newcomb & Boyd is proud to welcome our new co-ops for Spring 2019. From a quadrilingual AP Scholar to a web platform founder, these young men and women have accumulated an impressive amount of experience both academically and personally. They are heavily involved in campus organizations and professional societies, all while also contributing to MEP projects that are developing their practical skills and knowledge in their respective fields of study. Get to know more about them as they contribute to the success of Newcomb & Boyd and embark on their future careers.

Naz Aktas Headshot

Naz Aktas

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Naz Aktas joins Newcomb & Boyd as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. She is enrolled at Georgia Tech and plans to earn her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in December of 2020.

While Naz is originally from Bethesda, Maryland, she calls her family’s residence in Redwood, Washington her home when she’s not at school/work in Atlanta. She has a four-year-old dog named, Luna.

In her spare time, Naz loves to run and cook. She also plays the violin and is fluent in Turkish.

Even though she considers herself a homebody, Naz has been to several countries, with her most favorite vacation being a trip to Interlaken, Switzerland. The first spot on her list of ideal vacations is a trip to Croatia.

 

Yves Roland AmougouYves Amougou Headshot

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Yves Amougou joins Newcomb & Boyd as an Electrical Engineering co-op. He is a junior at Kennesaw State University and plans to earn his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in December of 2020. On campus, he is an active member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Kennesaw Society of Black Engineers.

Yves is originally from Yaoundé, Cameroon, and currently lives in Dacula, Georgia. He lives with his sister, and they share a Golden Retriever, Rocky.

Yves’ hobbies include playing video games and soccer. He is fluent in his native tongue, French. In the last school year, he was part of a research team that helped design and build processes of electric vehicles.

Yves is passionate about making a difference, is most inspired by his father, and describes himself as a team player, ambitious and honest. What brought him to Newcomb & Boyd was the work environment and the opportunity to learn. His favorite quote is from Milton Berle: “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

 

Sokha BunSokha Bun Headshot

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Sokha Bun joins Newcomb & Boyd as an Electrical Engineering co-op. He is enrolled at Kennesaw State University and plans to earn his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree in December of 2019.

Sokha was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and moved to Atlanta in December of 1990. He currently resides in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He has one son named, Liam Mason (7.5 months old).

Sokha enjoys various outdoor activities, like snowboarding. He is a Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings fan and is currently binge-watching the TV show Narcos.

The furthest place Sokha has been from home was Cambodia. His favorite vacation was a 7-day cruise on the Oasis class ship. His ideal vacation would be anywhere that can bring joy to his little boy.

 

Tal DesheTal Deshe Headshot

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Tal Deshe joins Newcomb & Boyd as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. He is currently attending Kennesaw State University, where he is also a Computational Fluids Research Assistant. He plans to earn his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in December of 2019.

Tal is half Israeli and was born in San Diego, California. He considers his hometown as Johns Creek, Georgia, and currently lives in Sandy Springs. He owns a 1.5-year-old cat named, Beans, and a 1.5-month-old kitten, tentatively named, Nugget. In his first year at Kennesaw State, Tal participated in the University’s pumpkin launch. Together with a team of eight people, he designed and created a 500 lb steel trebuchet, and won 2nd place out of 16 teams.

Tal enjoys active hobbies such as camping, traveling, snowboarding, and hiking. If money and time weren’t an issue, his hobby would be to get better at the trumpet and start a ska band. Tal considers himself a planner for work and other responsibilities but goes with the flow for recreational activities.

 

Lejla DulicLejla Dulic Headshot

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Lejla Dulic joins Newcomb & Boyd as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. She is a current student and AP Scholar at Georgia Tech, where she is very active in campus activities. She is the Finance Assistant for Alpha Xi Delta – Gamma Eta and is a Student Employer Relations Ambassador for the Georgia Tech Center for Career Discovery and Development. She plans to earn her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in December of 2020.

Originally from Acworth, Georgia, Lejla now lives in Atlanta. She loves the beach and going hiking. Lejla is quite cosmopolitan, as she is Bosnian and has also traveled to over 10 countries. The furthest she’s been from home was Budapest, Hungary. Her favorite trip was when she studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. She is quadrilingual in English, French, Bosnian, and Spanish.

 

Aaron McClellanAaron McClellan Headshot

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Aaron McClellan joins Newcomb & Boyd as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. He earned his Associate of Science in Engineering Studies degree from Armstong State University in December of 2017. He is currently enrolled at Kennesaw State University and plans to earn his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in May of 2020. On campus, he is involved with the Kennesaw Society of Black Engineers, as well as the Student Government Association, serving as President Pro-Tempore.

Aaron is originally from Savannah and lives in Marietta, Georgia. His hobbies include music and spoken word poetry. He has a talent for trivia and random knowledge. Additionally, his hidden talent is singing Bachata. If time and money weren’t an issue, Aaron would either learn to play the saxophone or get back into playing the piano.

While earning his Associate degree, Aaron conducted research on the feasibility of design redundancy in the prevention of bridge failures, specifically focusing on the failure of the I-35W bridge in Minnesota. He also took part in an aquaponics construction project, where he designed and constructed a plant support structure with a limited budget and time frame.

 

Caleb McCulloughAaron McClellan Headshot

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP
Caleb McCullough joins Newcomb & Boyd as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. He is currently attending Georgia Tech and plans to earn his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in May of 2020. He has an active schedule on campus, as he is a Lifeguard Supervisor and Instructor at the Recreation Center, President of STAR (Students Temporary Assistive Resources), and Founder/CFO of The Intercept Project, a web platform that uses a search algorithm designed by his team to pair survivors of human trafficking with resources for their immediate needs.

Caleb hails from Wilmington, North Carolina, and now resides in Atlanta. He has a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees named, Rex. His hobbies include camping and outdoor recreation. Caleb is currently binge reading the Inheritance Cycle book series by Christopher Paolini. The farthest he’s been from home was Australia, and his favorite vacation was a tour of Eastern Africa to the countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Zanzibar.
