Welcome Wednesday: Melissa Chumbley

Melissa Chumbley joins the Lighting Design Group in Atlanta as a Lighting Designer. She earned her Bachelors in Environmental Design, Emphasis in Architecture, from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2016. Additionally, Melissa has certificates in Lighting Design and Technology, Arts, and Media from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Melissa, who is originally from Colorado, lives along the Beltline. She and her boyfriend of ten years have a dog named Ali. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, tennis, photography, spending time outdoors, and visiting new places, including Alaska, Canada, Central America, Iceland, Morocco, Italy, and all around Europe.

Melissa attended high school part-time while being part of an elite athletic program. Because her parents loved skiing so much, her middle name is the word for “snow” in Italian, Neve. During college, she was in the first group of students to participate in a new lighting design course. She fell in love with the profession and continued her education to earn her certification. Her mentor, a professional architect and lighting designer,  supported her career and insisted she apply to work for Newcomb & Boyd.
