Hollings Marine Laboratory

The Hollings Marine Laboratory is a marine environmental health research laboratory facility for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, emphasizing multidiscipline and multi-institutional research, linking understanding of the health of coastal ecosystems to both fisheries and human health. Core research capabilities include a cryogenic specimen banking facility; analytical clean laboratories; environmentally controlled challenge laboratories; and bioassay, incubator, aquatic animals, culture, and radiation laboratories.

Estuarine Habitats and Coastal Fisheries Center

Retrocommissioning of the complete HVAC system, including laboratory controls, in this state-of-the-art science facility. The facility includes ecology, chemistry, genetics and necropsy laboratories, and a seawater laboratory for live animal culture. It is adjacent to the United Stated Geological Service’s National Wetlands Research Center and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, providing nearby support in cooperative research. The facility also includes office and laboratory space currently in use by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the United States Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service, United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the United States Geological Service Biological Resources Division.

East Carolina University

Conversion of the historically significant Flanagan Building, originally constructed in 1939, from chemistry teaching laboratory use to predominantly dry laboratory space. The building houses the Departments of Anthropology, Archaeology and Geology, and the College of Mathematics and Sciences. Wet laboratories in the building are used specifically by the Institute for Coastal and Marine Research and the Coastal Marine Research Department.
